For over 10 years now American artist Ra Paulette has traveled alone, every day, wearing a backpack and pushing a wheelbarrow, into the sandstone mesas of northern New Mexico where has been chipping, scraping and digging inside the sandstone caverns, transforming them into a luminous sculptural labyrinth. Each unique chamber is illuminated by light tunnels carved in the ceilings.
"Paulette was always struck by the relationship between humans, nature, and the inner soul. A solitary walk through a forest is more than a casual stroll, it becomes an introspective pilgrimage. When complete, the caves are meant to provide surreal transformative environments for this exact purpose- they are designed to foster ‘spiritual renewal and personal well being‘.”
Once he has finished his awesome project, Paulette intends his caves to be used as a venue for artistic events and individual personal discover.
