I have my notes and the manual but I am just stupid when it comes to the ion.
I like the hog.
I’d rather have a hog than an ion any day of the week. And merely touching a hog in my mind is like committing a terrible, awful sin.
ETC, has proven, that they can make some great conventional lights. When their patents run out, they’re screwed. Anything else they offer is a half thought through turd or some one else’s technology that they bought so they could slap their stickers on the side.
Their consoles are loved by many. Most of those people are in or come from academia or legitimate theater. Which is fine. You can beautifully make a stack of cues. A nice linear stack of cues. I’m not denying that.
But the structure of the interface is painful and clumsy. It is just poorly designed interface that leads to frustration and unreal, time consuming programmer suffering.
I’m always amazed, when I have to work in a theater with a traditional ‘theater’ desk like an ETC or Strand just how fucking long it takes to program a single goddamn cue. And then they’re all proud of themselves that they did a really neat color chase. Shaddup. You suck.
And they’re all like, yeah, I mean the MA stuff is ok, but it isn’t really a theater thing, I mean I can do everything that console can do, and faster. As long as it’s just a cue stack.
Yeah, but I can have endless cue stacks.
And then I stab them in the face and scream, do YOU want to program 30 universes of moving heads on this doorstop!?
