What a weird place. I appreciate the spectacle because it is absurd and surreal, but like all things in Vegas that leave you empty, it’s fake. And not even realistically fake, but fake, fake.
As scenery, amazing, as an art that could be mistaken for reality, it’s just realistic enough to convince the people who think Vegas is a good time that this is just as good as the real thing.
If you’re not already wealthy, if you’re not blowing your Social Security check, or not a professional or chronic gambler, Vegas is filled with posers and those chasing the well marketed Vegas “party scene” which, on the whole leaves you poorer, empty, tired, and usually hungover.
The “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” idea is less about getting laid or breaking loose and acting wild, but I think, from the people I know who buy into that it is more about, “i brought some hookers up to my room” and/or “I got shitfaced, urinated on the floor and threw up in the sink” and/or “I spent the college fund.”
So yeah, they’re right in promoting the idea that “what stays in Vegas stays in Vegas” because it really seems that the end result, judging by the people you see departing here and the people I know who go here, the Vegas thing leaves you feeling empty since on the whole it’s a pretty hollow and sad experience.
