Now that literally means the opposite of literally, how do we indicate something is true?

I was about to say “I’ve been putting out fires (not literally)” but that no longer applies. Do I say “I have been putting out fires all morning, but not actual fires?” And what’s the state of “figuratively?” Is that word cast off to the isle of redundancy, destined to be forgotten?
