Here at Geyser of Awesome headquarters we often daydream about having an office pet. A cat or dog would be great, but what about an office Capybara? That would be awesome!
Texas couple Melanie Typaldos and Richard Loveman share their home and their lives in Buda, Texas with a 112-pound capybara named Gary. They even take him on road trips. Melanie and Richard first fell in love with Capybaras during a holiday in Venezuela. They adopted Gary after his former owner was no longer able to care for him:
‘Athough some people might find it strange, it’s really no different than having a dog or a cat,’ said Ms Typaldos, who installed a pool in her backyard for Gary to cool off in. ‘Gary is really very smart and he’s very affectionate. He comes when he’s called and he likes to sleep with me,’ she added.
As you can see from some of the photos above, Gary gets along smashingly with the rest of the family’s menagerie, which includes a horse, rabbits, tortoises, dogs, and a cat:
‘He gets on well with the other animals, although he likes to chase the rabbits for fun. He does sometimes get angry with the tortoises because he thinks they invade his space and there is nothing he can do about it.’
Gary has even learned how to do different tricks on cue. He can raise a paw to shake, turn in a circle, stand up on his hind legs, and jump up on things on command. We’d sure love to meet him.
