Perfectly sanitary conditions. Somehow I feel that basic hand washing was not a priority in those days.
"Let’s play barefoot in the gutter downhill from that decomposing horse!"
One has to wonder just how bad the world smelled in those days that playing less than ten feet from a gigantic rotting corpse seemed like, “meh, what dead horse?”
