In the past this would just be a really funny idea that would never have come to pass, mush less become documented for all humanity to see.
When I was a kid they said that by the time I was my age, people would be living on the moon.
I feel like the powers of science and industry asked someone the following question, “Would you rather have interstellar travel and lunar bases for a select few individuals or a global repository of information that will be accessible to hundreds and hundreds of millions of people. Keep in mind the global repository will be primarily stocked with animated images of people’s pets doing ridiculous shit.”
Clearly we know which was chosen.
