When I was at the University of Illinois I worked as a barista at Espresso Royale, the coffee shop inside the student union. One day during a lull, I had my back turned to the register tending to something when I heard, “Could I trouble you for a cappuccino, young man?” I turned around and it was Roger Ebert, in town for his annual Overlooked Film Festival.
He tipped me $3 on a $2.50 order. Nice guy.
